Alumni Of the Week “Ian Goodson”
Ian Goodson
Ian Goodson started training at Mountainside Martial Arts Center in August 2004, that was the beginning of his 13 year journey with the amazing people at Mountainside Martial Arts and Sensei Rick Savagian. In November 2010 he achieved the rank of Shodan; in 2014 Nidan was all Ian could think about. In November of 2014 Sensei Rick awarded him with the rank of Nidan. In 2016 the World Tournament at the Tokyo Budokan came calling. Competing in Japan was a bucket list item that had to be checked off; It was also one of the most humbling experiences of his life.
After completing two associate's degrees in business at Mesa Community College Ian decided to enlist in the United States Navy. In March 2018 he graduated boot camp with the rank of Seaman. After seven months of training at Electronics Technician “A” School in Great Lakes, ILL. Ian Graduated as the Class Leader in November 2018. In December 2018 he put on the rank Third Class Petty Officer (ET3). Currently he is attending Navy “C” School in San Diego, CA. In July of 2019 he will be going overseas to his permanent duty station on an Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer in Yokosuka, Japan.
